Dhaka ranks 7th worst in Air Quality Index

Shawdesh Desk:

Bangladesh’s capital was ranked seventh worst in the Air Quality Index (AQI) on Wednesday morning.

Dhaka had a score of 144 at 11:35am, indicating that the quality was unhealthy.

The general public and sensitive individuals in particular are at risk to experience irritation and respiratory problems when the AQI value is between 101 and 150.

Malaysia’s Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore occupied the top three spots respectively.

The AQI, an index for reporting daily air quality, informs people how clean or polluted the air of a certain city is, and what associated health effects might be a concern for them.

Dhaka, one of the most densely populated cities in the world, has been grappling with air pollution for a long time.

The air quality generally worsens during summer and shows signs of improvement during monsoon when the dust settles.
